Power Unit Information D9531 - [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ Photos ] Current Status of Power Unit : (cont) In the latter part of 2003 a stroke (or possibly 4-stroke) of luck came along in the shape of a fully refurbished, zero-hours Paxman power unit surplus to requirements and for sale in Holland (at a price £10,000 cheaper than the parts required to restore the original unit). It was quickly decided to purchase the unit which was shipped from Holland arriving in Bury just before Christmas. Only very minor adjustments will need to be made to fit the new power unit and due to it's 'Zero-hours' condtion no overhaul is necessary saving 6-12 months work on restoring the original Power unit. This also now means D9531's former power unit will act as a float of spares. Since its arrival the power unit has been repainted and had missing components (Oil Filters and Heat Exchanger) refitted. The oil and water systems pressure tested making the power unit ready to be reunited with the locomotive. [ next >>> ] |
